Studies have revealed a strong direct link between Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) and speech understanding. Where children with normal hearing need a 3-5 dB positive SNR, the hearing impaired child needs 15-20 dB of positive SNR in order to be able to comprehend speech and develop their listening and language skills.
